Phil Tetzlaff

If you have experience coaching hockey and are looking for a good opportunity, contact Mark Carlson and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

The Riders are down to zero official full-time assistant coaches after Phil Tetzlaff was dismissed from the staff this week. Lead assistant Travis Winter left the club recently to take a head coaching job with the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League.

Tetzlaff was in his first season in Cedar Rapids after spending time as a United States Hockey League scout. Carlson did not wish to discuss the dismissal but did say he is working on procuring replacements.

“We have parted ways,” was all Carlson would say.

Former RoughRiders player Kevin Brooks, director of hockey at at the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, is helping out in Winter’s and Tetzlaff’s absences. He has other duties as head coach of one of the University of Iowa’s club hockey teams.

Scott Meyer remains the club’s goaltending coach, traveling from his home in the Twin Cities periodically to work with goalies Steve Michalek and Chris Birdsall.
