Instructors with the American Canoe Association worked with participants for a winter pool paddling skills session at Peet Pool in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Instructors were Piper Wall and Greg Vitale of Ames, Iowa, Max Wellhouse and Al Donaldson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Glenn Harman of Des Moines, Iowa,

This is the fourth or fifth year for the sessions. Organizer and Cedar Falls resident Al Donaldson says participants each have their own needs to accomplish during the pool sessions. Some want to learn how to roll their whitewater kayak, while others want to improve their individual paddling stroke and coordinate tandem canoe operations.

"I am committed to any actions that I can take to increase paddler skill and safety: providing the winter practice time and the presence of the greatly skilled instructors seems to be a simple way to accomplish this task," said Donaldson on his motivation in organizing the pool sessions.
