The 2012 School Band and Orchestra Association’s annual “50 Directors Who Make a Difference” report includes Jefferson High School Band Director Thad Driskell as the Iowa honoree.

The report spotlights one band or orchestra teacher from each state as an exemplary teacher leading a thriving and vibrant instrumental program. Driskell, a 21-year instrumental educator, has taught at Jefferson High School for the past 11 years. The JHS program includes 220 students.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to live our profession of music education daily,” he noted in sharing his philosophy. “My goal is to provide meaningful guidance and instruction, with high personal and aesthetic impact for each student, on a daily basis through music. I strive to provide a welcoming and collaborative environment that fosters individual and ensemble growth musically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally. I believe and expect that all students will succeed and strive to instill a passion, understanding, and excitement for each step of the musical process.”
