Shooting assertion thoughtless, naive

While I appreciate the overarching point of your editorial (“Arming school teachers not a solution,” Jan. 16) that guns are out of place in schools, I wonder about one of your assertions regarding school shootings. You write: “Few students and staff ever will experience them.”

Apart from the statement’s frightening parochialism, I wonder what possible basis you could have for making such a blatantly ignorant assertion so utterly replete with false consolation. Connecticut hadn’t had a slaughter like that at Newtown until it happened.

Whatever merit may be associated with your editorial is sadly undercut by its thoughtless assertion of Iowa’s never-to-be-sullied innocence. Please read your own newspaper about gun violence in Cedar Rapids.
