SOUTH AMANA, IA. — She’s not losing just her job or her office — more like the family room or oversized kitchen of a place that seems like home.

Renee Bringman has worked for 28 years in the Amana Society Bakery, where her father spent more than 40 years shuffling loaves and dinner rolls before he retired a decade ago. Her mother also worked here for 25 years.
