A prosecutor will likely dismiss charges against a felon accused of improperly registering to vote if she stays out of trouble.

Assistant Wright County Attorney Jonathan Holscher said Tuesday he’s entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with Stacy Brown.

Brown was charged with election misconduct and fraud in October under an investigation into election irregularities championed by Secretary of State Matt Schultz.

Holscher says the agreement “more or less” requires him to dismiss charges in July if Brown doesn’t commit any crimes “and keeps her nose clean.” He says the agreement is fair given the evidence and circumstances in the case.

Police say Brown registered to vote when obtaining a driver’s license, despite a prior felony conviction. Brown claimed she wasn’t paying attention when she affirmed she wasn’t a felon.
