An Iowa Falls man has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death Monday after his infant daughter was taken off life support last October.

Trevor E. Smith, 27, was arrested Monday by Waterloo police. Smith, formerly of Waterloo, is accused of shaking his 2-month-old daughter on two separate occasions, causing injuries to her.

Police were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 to 1012 Wellington St. in Waterloo for a report of an unresponsive 2-month old child. Smith, the only care provider present, told authorities he was the feeding his daughter, Aubriana Christian, a bottle when she went stiff and had trouble breathing.

Christian was transported to Covenant Hospital and was later airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Hospital personnel advised officials that the baby had a brain bleed consistent with non-accidental trauma.

Smith later admitted to investigators to shaking Christian on two separate occasions because she would not stop crying.

Christian was removed from life support and passed away on Oct. 2, authorities said. An autopsy revealed her injuries were inflicted and consistent with the actions Smith told officials.

Waterloo police Capt. Tim Pillack said Smith lived at the Wellington Street address at the time, but moved to Iowa Falls after the incident.
