EVANSTON, Ill. — Iowa earned its first road win of the season and ended a five-game losing streak to Northwestern with a 70-50 win Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Iowa (12-5, 1-3 Big Ten) battered Northwestern in the second half, stretching a 10-point halftime lead to as many as 27 late in the second half.
Aaron White scored 17 points while Josh Oglesby added 14 for Iowa. It was Iowa’s first true road win this season.
Iowa is in position to earn its first road win of the season, leading Northwestern 61-40 with 6:39 left.

Iowa guard Josh Oglesby has struggled for most of the year but he has redeemed himself nicely in the second half at Northwestern.
Oglesby hit back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the second half to lift Iowa to a 46-30 lead with 11:13 left.
After a sluggish opening to the second half, Iowa has rebounded to take a 34-23 lead with 15 minutes left in the game.
Aaron White scored an alley oop dunk off a pass from Mike Gesell, then followed with a three-point play to push Iowa up 32-20.
Iowa guard Devyn Marble started for Iowa and scored the game’s first points with a dunk.
Iowa point guard Anthony Clemmons received his second foul with 14:11 left in the half after he nudged Northwestern point guard Dave Sobolewski shooting a 3-pointer. Sobolewski will get three free throw attempts. Northwestern leads 5-4.
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery took out starters Clemmons, Mike Gesell, Adam Woodbury and Aaron White and brought in Josh Oglesby, Melsahn Basabe, Eric May and Zach McCabe, leaving only Marble as the only starter on the floor.
Basabe immediately responded with a powerful one-handed dunk and then blocked a Dave Sobolewski shot. Iowa leads 9-8, 11:49 left in the first half.
Iowa and Northwestern are tied 11-11, 7:30 left in the first half. Iowa is shooting 5-of-17, while Northwestern is shooting 4-of-15 from the floor.
Iowa has scored six straight points, aided by a Devyn Marble jumper and an Aaron White fast-break dunk, to take a 17-11 lead with 3:34 left in the half. White is at the free-throw line after a Jared Swopshire foul.
White knocked down both free throws and Marble hit a pair of jumpers to give Iowa a 23-13 lead. Oglesby stole a pass on Northwestern’s possession and Woodbury followed with a dunk to push the Iowa lead to 25-13.
Northwestern’s Tre Demps was fouled on the next possession and hit two free throws. Iowa missed a pair of shots inside of 3 seconds left but leads 25-15 at halftime.
Devyn Marble is in uniform and will start today for Iowa.
Marble, a 6-foot-7 junior, suffered a sprained right ankle last week in practice and missed Thursday’s game against Michigan State. Marble had started 42 consecutive games for Iowa.
Marble is the team’s leading scorer at 15.5 points per game.
Iowa (11-5, 0-3) has lost four straight games at Welsh-Ryan Arena ad five consecutive overall to the Wildcats (10-6, 1-2).
