Here I am at the brewery I will be opening minutes after I win the lottery.

Actually, this photo was taken Saturday at New Glarus Brewing in New Glarus, Wisconsin, where some very fine beer is being crafted for sampling and purchasing. Heck, you can purchase an inflatable cow, if that's your thing. I am shown here gripping a pint of Moon Man IPA while touring the brewery. If you get closer to the photo, you can smell the hops. Mmm. Hops.

Some very good friends of ours recently moved from Ames to Oregon, Wis., which is just south of Madison and about 20 miles from New Glarus, a quaint little burg that dubs itself "Little Switzerland." A fine day trip destination, in my estimation. There are a bunch of little shops that sell gifts and chocolate and meats and, that Wisconsin rarity, cheese.

New Glarus beer is sold only in Wisconsin, as far as I know. Here's to hoping that changes at some point. Until then, I'll just have to return to stock up. Pity me in the land of beer and cheese and brats. Torture.

Elsewhere, this weekend...

The Iowa Republican State Central Committee, as advertised, filled its leadership flush with devotees of Ron Paul. Paulians? Paulinistas? Paulbots? Paulitarians? Just flip a pure silver coin and pick one.

The Iowa Republican has wall-to-wall coverage. Don't miss Kevin Hall's distinctive take on the proceedings.

From the other end of the spectrum, Bleeding Heartland also has a roundup.

Also, last weekend, our steely eyed governor bagged an eight-point buck in Decatur County. Congratulations.

And speaking of things the governor is hunting, The Gazette editorial board gave its take on property tax reforms.
