A 43-year-old Iowa City woman was arrested over the weekend after authorities said she hit her boyfriend and his dog with her car during a fight Friday in rural Iowa City.

According to a criminal complaint, Renee Lynn Glaspie is accused of punching her significant other in the face twice and then getting in her vehicle in the driveway at 707 Bay Ridge Drive. She “floored” her car in reverse, according to deputies, running over her boyfriend’s dog.

The victim ran to the front of her car to try and get her to stop driving “because the dog was under the vehicle,” according to the complaint. Deputies said Glaspie then “floored” the vehicle toward her boyfriend, hitting him and knocking him to the ground.

Glaspie is accused of speeding away and leaving her boyfriend with a large gash on his elbow, a bump on his head, a limp and hip pain, according to the complaint. He had to receive medical care, including stitches to his elbow, authorities reported.

It’s unclear whether the dog survived the collision.

Glaspie is facing a charge of domestic abuse and assault without intent to cause injury, a serious misdemeanor. She was being held Monday morning in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash-only bond.
