Podcast: ‘On Iowa’ on Big Ten bowls and hoops
  1. Even though Iowa didn’t snag the victory here, playing Indiana to a 4 point game in a Big Ten opener is still incredibly impressive. Yes, they are ranked #5, but they are arguably the best complete team in America along with Duke and Michigan, IMHO.

Just imagine an Oregon or Alabama-esque team coming into Kinnick this season and only losing by a field goal at the end, that’s essentially what happened in Carver. Obviously, we all wanted the W, but to show such resolve and grit that the hoopyballers displayed shouldn’t be discounted. Yes, a loss is a loss, but for all the freshman and inexperience that’s apparent on this team, what a hell of an effort and will truly pay dividends down the line.

Scott, I know this is early and probably getting way ahead of ourselves, but with the addition of Uthoff/Jok next year and continued development, do you see Iowa legitimately competing for a Big Ten title next season. Also, given Indiana will lose Zeller, Michigan might lose a Trey Burke or Robinson III if he’s a one and done, etc. etc. Hopefully as well Jok can bring some outside shooting that is so desperately needed and Uthoff seems like an Aaron White-esque player.
