Three cheers Barbara Schlachter and the 100 Grannies for a Livable Future. Schlachter’s guest column “Nation urgently needs clean energy” (Dec. 19) urged President Obama to support wind and solar energy and to oppose putting more fossil fuel emissions into the atmosphere.

I was blessed with two wonderful grandmothers who deeply influenced my life — I can’t imagine 100 of them! Grandmothers are tied to the earth and the children they help raise, so we should listen to them when they speak.

Wouldn’t New York Mayor Bloomberg’s bubbie be proud of him? Bloomberg said “Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be — given the week’s devastation — should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action.”

If elected leaders care about the future of our country and our world, they would be well served to listen to the sage advice of the 100 Grannies. Go, Grannies, go!
