Stop signs in downtown will not benefit pedestrians

The Cedar Rapids City Council is trying to ruin this city. Discussing four-way stop signs downtown is dumber than blocking off a perfectly good street for a medical center. Can you imagine the traffic backup during rush hour, not to mention the danger for pedestrians trying to navigate a four-way stop sign with two-ton cars in competition? Give me a green light any day!

The continuous stream of pedestrians across the intersection would cause driver impatience and danger for those pedestrians. With a stop light, they at least go across in bunches under the safety of the cross traffic red light and then give the vehicles their turn.

For many years, the intersection at Council Street and Boyson Road was a four-way stop. The backup and congestion was unbearable until stop lights were installed. Now they’ve hired, with our taxpayer money, a consultant who is getting paid to come up with the really stupid idea of reverting back. I say we fire this so-called consultant. Go back to Washington D.C. and put your stop signs in there. You’ll be tarred and feathered!
