This Saturday, December 22, Club members and staff at Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids will be trekking all over Cedar Rapids doing good deeds, giving back to the people of Cedar Rapids. Beginning at 9:00 am, six teams of Club members will visit stores, malls and businesses throughout Cedar Rapids performing Random Acts of Kindness, or as we like to call it, RAOK. The RAOKs may include taping a quarter or two to a washing machine at a laundry mat, paying for someone’s meal at a fast food drive through, giving a present to someone at the mall or delivering flowers to the sick. Some places Club members may be spotted include Walmart, Target, Mercy Hospital, Soapy Waters Laundry Mat, Lindale & Westdale Malls, Collins Road Theaters, Hy-Vee on Mount Vernon Road & Johnson Avenue, and many more. Club members will also make stops at the Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments.

To prepare for RAOK Day, Torch Club members held bake sales and sold Younkers Community Days coupon books raising more than $450 to help cover costs of RAOK Day. Thank you to the following businesses for helping us stretch these dollars a little further: Hy-Vee Mount Vernon Road, Hy-Vee Johnson Avenue, Corn-Fusion, Pecks Flower Shop and The Popcorn Shoppe.

RAOK Day teaches Club members the value of giving back to the community. This day is our way of saying “Thank You” to the community for supporting the Club over the last year, and especially the last few weeks. The donations that have come in over the last few weeks have helped make the holidays brighter for our Club members and their families.
