Planning for continued growth, RuffaloCODY will sell its existing headquarters to Kirkwood Community College and plans a new building at C Street and 76th Avenue SW.

The 21-year-old privately owned company, which manages enrollment and fundraising services for colleges, universities and not-for-profit organizations, occupies a 27,000-square-foot building at 65 Kirkwood North Rd. SW. The company moved into the building in 2004.

Al Ruffalo, chairman and chief executive officer of RuffaloCODY, said the company is targeting April 2014 to move into the new building. It will be located on Kirkwood land at the southwest corner of 76th Avenue and C Street SW, which will be deeded to RuffaloCODY as part of the purchase of its existing building.

RuffaloCODY employs about 250 in Cedar Rapids and has announced plans to add 110 to 120 full-time positions company-wide next year, with about half of them in Cedar Rapids

As RuffaloCODY has grown, it has leased 20,000 square feet of a building on Capital Drive SW and 7,000 square feet of a building on Beverly Road off Edgewood Road SW.

The Kirkwood board of trustees on Thursday approved the purchase of the RuffaloCODY building on Kirkwood North Road SW next to the college's recreation center. The college reportedly has plans for the building after it is vacated by RuffaloCODY.

Ruffalo said the company is planning a building that will bring all of its Cedar Rapids operations under one roof.

"We're in the initial stages of planning the design of the building," Ruffalo said. "We're going to be building a facility with a footprint of 60,000 square feet to 65,000 square feet. Initially we're looking at a two-story building with the ability to expand it.

"We've never seemed to build a facility that will hold us for a number of years. We're going to make sure this building is designed properly so we can add on when need be."

Ruffalo said the company has enjoyed a strong partnership with Kirkwood and the new agreement "solidifies" its relationship with the community college.

RuffaloCODY was recently ranked No. 3 on Inc. magazine's inaugural 100 "Hire Power Awards" for creating 1,700 jobs nationally in the last three years.
