Gym-Nest Jones shines at state gymnastics

CLIVE — Jaly Jones of Williamsburg, a member of the Iowa Gym-Nest, took first place in the Level 5 vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise and the all-around at the Iowa State Gymnastics meet.

Gracie Ehret, also of Williamsburg, won the balance beam and all-around in Level 5 and placed second in three other events. Other state champions were Ruth Miller and Natalie Katz of Iowa City, Chloe Gile of Blairstown and Gabrielle Bullard of Solon.

Mary Clare Greer of Coralville, Isabel Jimenez of North Liberty, Gracie Greer and Shelby Adamiec of Coralville all were multiple winners in Level 4.

The Iowa Gym-Nest won the Level 4 team title and placed second in Level 5.

Lewis, Smith lead Twisters at state

CLIVE — Bree Lewis and Elise Smith of Twisters Gymnastics both won four events at the Iowa State championships.

Lewis won in Level 5, along with Megan Hendrickson, Riley Kalous, Emily Richards, Taylor Peterson, Lindsey Carnahah and Gabriella Schroud. Leah Hendrickson, Tatum Burnhardt and Emma Lewis earned top three finishers.

Smith won in Level 4, along with Chloe Carpenter, Shawna Linderman, Carlie Mather and Alexis Wheeler. Kailee Zwack, Anna Neumann, Reese Miller and Serena Rupert were placewinners.

Natalie Averkamp placed in Level 6.

Coralville’s Martin in All-American Bowl

WHARTON, N.J. — Oliver Martin of Coralvviille, who attends North Central Junior School in North Liberty, has been selected to play at the 2013 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl.

The event is Jan. 6 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Martin will play wide receiver for the 8th grade West team.

Zaugg win 5 state events for CRAG

CLIVE — Grace Zaugg of the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics won five events at the Iowa State meet in Level 4.

Other Level 4 winners were Elizabeth Anderson, Jordyn Bowers, Maanasa ChinnakondaSidney Davidson, Hailey Hakes and Kori Lyle. Caitlin Conner, Allison Hayes and Grace Walker were top three placewinners.

Lily Culver, Maya Deuso, Connie Mendoza and Mary Kate Patterson were winners for CRAG in Level 6, and Grace Hartzler and Kareena McSweeney placed in the top three.

Level 5 placewinners were Jessica Frasher, Kyleigh Garcia, Kayla Hahn and Megan Norris.
