If it seems like a long time ago when Brennan Cougill played basketball at Iowa, that’s because it was. Three seasons ago, to be precise.

Cougill averaged 14.8 minutes a game as a freshman in 2009-2010, Todd Lickliter’s last season as Iowa’s coach. But he was ruled academically ineligible after that school year, and went to Kirkwood Community College to continue his collegiate career. There, the 6-foot-9, 265-pounder averaged 14.4 points for a team that went 28-5.

With Lickliter replaced by Fran McCaffery, Cougill wasn’t invited back to Iowa. But that doesn’t mean Hawkeye fans can’t feel good about the fact that the player seems to have found a good home and is doing well for himself.

Cougill went to Wisconsin-Green Bay of the Horizon League. Last season, he averaged 9.2 points and 7 rebounds per game. Nice. So far this season, he is averaging 27.1 minutes, 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds as a senior He had 12 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday night in the Phoenix’s 65-54 loss at Wisconsin. UWGB is 3-6.

Seldom is a player of Cougill’s size a great free-throw shooter, but he is 29-of-33 this year and has made his last 18 attempts.
