Trekman Racing will be hosting its inaugural Big Woods Sprint Triathlon on June 29, at Big Woods Lake in Cedar Falls. The event begins with a mass swim start to a canon blast at Big Woods Lake for a 500 meter, and continues with a 15 mile bicycle leg, and a 3.1 mile run.

The race is open to individuals and teams. Awards will be presented to the overall winners as well as the top three finishers in each age group and overall teams. Registration will be $55 per individual or $150 per team.

Triathlons have become increasingly popular for Cedar Valley residents, with registration in other local triathlons filling quickly. Free group training runs will take place on Saturday afternoons at the north parking lot of Big Woods and a special triathlon clinic will be held by the Runners Flat in March. Plans are being made to add an Olympic distance triathlon for 2014.

Registration and more information will be available at trekmanracing.com or contact Stacey Nelson at onesmstep@yahoo.com
