Highway 30 intersection needs stop signs

April 1, 2014 | 3:11 am

I get tired of the state spending so much money on the Highway 151 and Springville intersection. Highway 30 west of Cedar Rapids at the Atkins corner has an intersection that is probably worse and there has not been any serious accidents there. At the Atkins corner, eastbound traffic on Highway 30 is rounding a curve plus topping a hill, so itís hard for north south traffic to see them, much less know what lane they are in. At the Atkins corner, people just cross two lanes and then stop in the median to see if itís safe to cross the next two lanes of traffic.

The same should be true for the Springville exit, but apparently people just stop once and try to cross all four lanes plus the median without checking while theyíre in the median for traffic in the next two lanes. The state should take down the yield signs in the median and put stop signs in the median. Then the police should watch to be sure that people are stopping in the median.
