Freedom Festival adds new directors, officers

New hires

GreatAmerica Financial Services Corp. in Cedar Rapids hired Joy Leeper (see photo) as legal assistant; Justin Pickavance (see photo) as support administrator-systems; and Sarah Yi (see photo) joined as operations support specialist.

Vortex Business Solutions in Iowa City hired Paul Kleen as vice president of marketing and social media.

Pamela Schmitz Delagardelle (see photo) was named president and CEO of Allen Health System effective Jan. 1. She had been the CEO of Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Michael Rott (see photo) joined Securian Advisors MidAmerica Inc., a financial services firm in Hiawatha, as a sales manager.

Michael Masse (see photo) joined the home mortgage lending staff of U.S. Bank as a mortgage loan originator. Masse will work out of the North Liberty and Coralville branches.

Promotions

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department announced the promotion of Doug LeClere (see photo) to shift fire captain. LeClere was previously shift firefighter.

Caitlin Treece (see photo) was named interim executive director with the Carl & Mary Koehler History Center in Cedar Rapids. Treece will continue to serve as director of education.

Zac Rinderknecht (see photo) was appointed loss-prevention coordinator for the Cedar Rapids and Marion area Hy-Vee Stores. Rinderknecht was formerly in management at several Cedar Rapids and Marion area Hy-Vee stores.

Board members

James Hall (see photo) was appointed to the Payment Policy Committee of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Private Practice Section. Hall is general manager of Rehab Management Services, a medical billing company in Cedar Rapids.

Philip Van Mersbergen (see photo) was appointed to serve on the Iowa Credit Union League Governance Task Force for 2013. Van Mersbergen joined Community 1st Credit Union in 2008 and was appointed president and CEO in 2011.

The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival added eight new directors to its board: Heather Deering (see photo), Homes Murphy & Associates; Jody Donaldson (see photo), Kirkwood Community College; Angela Jordan (see photo), ITC Midwest; Lori McGowan (see photo), GreatAmerica Leasing Corp.; Lisa McMillen-Boese, (see photo), Prairie Ridge Estates; Kristy Staker (see photo), Hy-Vee; Josh Streets (see photo), TrueNorth Companies; and Heather Wilson (see photo), Eastern Iowa Airport. The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival also voted in the officers for the 2013 Festival: Mark Hixson, Business Solutions Group, president; Erika Elles, Cargill, vice president; Angela Jordan, ITC Midwest, treasurer; and C.J. Kleene, Back in Line-Family Chiropractic & Wellness, secretary.

Awards

Mount Mercy assistant professor of nursing Sharon Guthrie (see photo) was named an Iowa Public Health Hero by the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Guthrie is the executive director of the Iowa School Nurse Organization.

The American Society for Clinical Pathology presented Patricia Knebel (see photo) of Iowa City with the 2012 ASCP Mastership. Knebel served as the laboratory manager of the Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System for more than 37 years.

J.D. Byrider franchisees Russ Larson, Doug Stewart and Jeff Lee were named Franchise of the Year for their locations in Burlington, Davenport, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation recognized Christine Landa (see photo), president of Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, was selected as the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation’s 2012 Bridge Builder Award winner. Nancy Lackner (see photo), development assistant with the Indian Creek Nature Center, received the Minnie Rubeck Award.

1000 Friends of Iowa recognized the Czech Village/New Bohemia Urban Main Street District with the 2012 Best Development Leadership Award.

Certifications

Teresa Geneser completed her certification examinations and is now a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Geneser practices pediatric dentistry at Pediatric Dentistry of Coralville, 414 10th Ave.

Seminars

“Problem Solving, Lean Tools Training,” hosted by the Iowa Quality Center, will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, at Kirkwood Training & Outreach, 3373 Armar Dr., Marion. This workshop covers the principles of quality and the Lean tools most commonly used to identify and solve problems within the work environment. Cost is $235.
