Hawkeyes end losing skid with big win

IOWA CITY –Iowa’s men’s basketball team took out the frustration of two straight losses with an 88-59 win against Texas A&M Corpus-Christi on Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Melsahn Basabe led the Hawkeyes with 17 points, while Devyn Marble scored 15 points. Adam Woodbury added 13.

Iowa improved to 6-2 with the win. The Islanders fell to 1-4.

Iowa plays South Dakota on Tuesday.

 

FIRST-HALF RECAP

Melsahn Basabe has become an unstoppable force that Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has struggled to defend.

Basabe scored 15 first-half points on 4-of-4 from the floor and nailed 7-of-8 from the free-throw line to pace the Hawkeyes to a 44-23 lead Saturday. Basabe, a 6-foot-7 junior forward, also picked up four rebounds in eight minutes.

Freshman center Adam Woodbury also is perfect from the field, hitting 4-of-4 and scoring 11 points. Woodbury also has four rebounds.

Iowa changed its starting lineup, inserting freshman guard Anthony Clemmons for junior forward Zach McCabe.Iowa has played 11 players, all of which for at least five minutes.

Iowa has dominated the game, and used a 20-0 run midway through the half to put the game way out of reach early for the Islanders (1-4).
