Here, here to the Nov. 27 letter “Surprise at Lake Macbride” by Bob Schlegel. The decision to allow any size motor on Lake Macbride during the summer months is way past due. This issue has been debated long enough.
I would suggest a moratorium for one year to allow any size motor for fisherman. If the no-wake rule and 5 mph limit is abused then go back to the limit. But if the fishermen are responsible and take care of business, as I think they will, then enact the changes that are needed.
We have been denied access to this lake during the summer months long enough. It may be time for someone to challenge this idiotic law in the courts. It is not only the Democratic thing to do but it is also the Republican thing to do.
My wife and I tow all the way to Belva Deer near Sigourney from West Branch to fish because we are not allowed on Lake Macbride. Our boat has a 25 horsepower motor and no room on the transom for a kicker. It is bolted onto the boat and cannot be removed easily. I am 64 years old and in no particular hurry, especially when on the lake fishing. I know many people in a similar situation.
