A 42-year-old Illinois man is scheduled to be tried Jan. 15 on suspicion of sexually assaulting a fellow inmate in the Washington County Jail last year.

Rudolph Edwards, who faces a felony charge of third-degree sexual abuse, is accused of assaulting a 32-year-old man at the jail in July 2011. The complaint was filed against Edwards in August 2011, and he entered a not guilty plea Nov. 9, according to online court records.

Edwards has a lengthy criminal history in Iowa, according to online court records, and he was sentenced in March to five years in prison for willful injury causing bodily injury.
