Per capita personal income rises in Linn, Johnson counties

Personal income is up in Linn County.

In 2011 Linn County had a per capita personal income of $43,378, up 5.3 percent from 2010, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The county’s per capita personal income figure ranked it 35th in the state and was 105 percent of the state average — at $41,156 — and 104 percent of the national average, $41,560.

In 2001 the Linn County per capita personal income was $31,557, ranking it second in the state. The 2001-2011 compound annual per capita personal income growth rate was 3.2 percent.

The compound annual growth rate for the state was 4  percent and for the nation was 2.9 percent.

In 2011, Linn County had total personal income of $9,277,439. That figure ranked the county second in the state and accounted for 7.4 percent of Iowa’s total personal income.

Ten years ago, in 2001, the total personal income of Linn County was $6,133,297, which ranked second in the state.

The 2011 per capita personal income for Johnson County was $41,349 — a 5.7 percent increase from 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Johnson County’s per capita personal income ranked it 48th in the state and 100 percent of the state average, at $41,156, and 99 percent of the national average, $41,560.

In 2001,  Johnson County had per capita personal income of $30,106, which ranked it seventh in the state. The 2001-2011 compound annual growth rate was 3.2 percent.

Johnson County had total personal income of $5,500,965 in 2011, which ranked fourth in the state and accounted for 4.4 percent of Iowa’s total. In 2001, the total personal income of Johnson County was $3,418,443, which ranked fourth in the state.

Total personal income includes net earnings, dividends, interest, rent and federal transfer payments, such as unemployment and Social Security.
