AMES Ten straight wins translated to not only an NCAA Tournament bid for the Iowa State volleyball team, but also first- and second-round hosting rights.

The tournament field was announced Sunday afternoon.

The 18th-ranked Cyclones (20-7) earned the 15th seed in the Berkley, Calif., region — and will host Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne (25-6) in Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. first-round match at Hilton Coliseum.

“We’re absolutely thrilled,” Cyclone coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. “I think this team did some tremendous things the last month and a half.”

ISU once stood 8-6 this season, but has been a roll that included Saturday’s five-set upset of No. 3 Texas at home.

It’s the Cyclones’ seventh straight NCAA bid and they’ve reached at least the Sweet 16 in four of the past five tournaments.

“Right now, the sky’s the limit for us,” said former Kennedy star  Kristen Hahn.

Monday, Hahn, a junior, earned Big 12 libero of the year honors for the second straight time.

Former Williamsburg standout Mackenzie Bigbee was named the Big 12 freshman of the year.

“I’ve just had a lot of fun this year,” Bigbee said. “I’ve learned so much from the older girls.”
