Cedar Rapids police are still searching for suspects after a cab driver was robbed at knife-point early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Officials responded around 12:15 a.m. to a report of a robbery in progress at 4825 Johnson Ave. NW. According to police, a 41-year-old female driver for Century Cab picked up five young men in Marion and transported them to the 4800 block of First Avenue West. When the driver stopped, the four passengers in back jumped out and ran away, but the young man in the front seat allegedly pulled a knife and demanded money, according to police.
The suspect got an undisclosed amount of money and ran from the cab, authorities said. The passengers were described as 16- to 18-year old black males wearing hooded sweat shirts. They were last seen running southwest from Johnson Avenue NW.
No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Linn County Crime Stoppers at 800- 272-7463.
In April 2011, 54-year-old Century Cab driver Cathy Stickley was stabbed to death in an apparent robbery attempt in the 1500 block alley between Second and Third avenues SE. Johnathan Mitchell, 35, is awaiting trial on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
