Witnesses to an overnight shooting outside of a Cedar Rapids bar disarmed the shooter and held him down until police arrived.
James A. Breen, 27, of 125 21st St. NE, has been charged with attempted murder and going armed with intent after the shooting outside of Rumors Bar and Grill, 400 F Ave. NW. He is accused of shooting Cory Forbes, 28, of Cedar Rapids, multiple times.
According to police, the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after an argument between Breen and another man. Investigators said when they got to the bar, they found Forbes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including wounds in the leg and lower torso.
Yellow police tape and emergency lights filled the scene late Sunday night as officers searched for evidence. According to police, the two men were acquaintances and knew each other prior to the shooting.
Police said witnesses struck Breen as they were detaining him until police arrived. Breen was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before he was taken to the Linn County Jail.
Forbes was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with very serious injuries, police said. He was in surgery Monday morning. There was no information about his official medical condition.
