Hills Bank announces new hires

New Employees

Crilley Law Offices and Crilley Mediation Services in Hiawatha and Cedar Rapids announced new associate attorneys Nicholas Garlisch (see photo) and Scott Willman (see photo). Garlisch is a graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law and Willman is a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Michigan.

Miron Construction Co. Inc. recently hired Norman Steinbach (see photo) to serve as project superintendent for its regional office in Cedar Rapids. Previously, Steinbach served as a construction carpenter general foreman/superintendent for a large construction firm headquartered in Minneapolis, Lansing, Minn.

Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids named Catherine Shafer (see photo) associate director of alumni relations. Shafer previously served as the facilities coordinator at the president’s house for the University of Northern Iowa.

Sandy Pumphrey (see photo) joined Bridgehaven Pregnancy Support Center in Cedar Rapids as executive director. Pumphrey was previously with the city of Cedar Rapids.

Gary Hansen (see photo) was hired by the city of Marion as assistant building inspection director for the building department. Hansen had been a building inspector with Linn County Planning and Development. Scott Riley also has started with the city as equipment operator for the Public Services Department. Riley was previously a landscape foreman with Culvers Lawn and Landscape.

Berthel Fisher & Co. in Marion announced several new employees: Ashley Irwin (see photo) joined as operations specialist, Anthony Reynolds (see photo) as a due-diligence analyst, Joana Karl (see photo) as operations specialist, and Megan Blinks (see photo), Teresa Stolba (see photo) and Bryan Janssen (see photo) started in Compliance as regional support specialists. Matt Samek (see photo) joined as RIA support specialist.

Promotions

Hills Bank and Trust Co. announced several promotions: Mark Ahlers (see photo) was promoted to vice president, trust officer in the Cedar Rapids downtown office. Becky Mougin (see photo) was promoted to customer contact center manager, officer in the Hills office, Joy Newhouse (see photo) to vice president, branch manager in the Cedar Rapids northeast office, and Deb Schaffer (see photo) to vice president, branch manager for the Iowa City downtown and Iowa Memorial Union offices.

Board Members

The Society of Financial Service Professionals announced Jim Meehan (see photo) was elected to the national board of directors of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Meehan is a wealth management adviser for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Iowa City.

Certifications

Ryan Heiar, North Liberty city administrator, received the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association.

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids collaborated with Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company, to implement energy efficiencies within Mercy’s new Hall-Perrine Cancer Center. The new technologies and techniques have contributed to the facility’s designation as a LEED certified building.

Awards and Kudos

Ron Kramer (see photo) of Insurance Associates of Iowa City was honored for his ongoing pledge to education and dedication to the insurance profession by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.

Calix Inc. announced nine of its communications service provider customers were named 2012 Calix Innovation Award winners at the Calix User Group Conference in Las Vegas. Among them were South Slope Cooperative Communications in North Liberty, honored for Innovation in Fiber Access.

RecBob, a Cedar Rapids-based technology startup, was selected to present a product demonstration in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 12 as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Summit Pointe in Marion won a Quality Program Award by the Iowa Health Care Association and Iowa Center for Assisted Living.

Several members of the American Institute of Architects’s Iowa chapter were recognized as participants in the AIA Iowa Citizen Architect Program by AIA Iowa for service to their communities. David Sorg, OPN Architects in Cedar Rapids, is a chairman-elect of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and Community Enhancement Committee. Scott Olson was elected as council member to the city of Cedar Rapids’s District 4. Kim McDonald, Neumann Monson Architect in Iowa City, now holds the position of past chairman of the board of trustees. Bob Gassman, also of Neumann Monson Architects, was voted to represent his precinct with five other delegates last year. Mitch Bloomquist of Sauter Baty Associates serves as a commission member for the Linn County Historic Preservation Commission.

The city of North Liberty and South Slope Cooperative Communications were recognized by Viodi for their promotion of community, economic development and collaboration on local content at a conference last month.

Seminar

The Iowa Quality Center will hold “Tool Time for Lean” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Dec. 4 and 5, at the Kirkwood Training and Outreach Service Center, 3375 Armar Dr., Marion. Health Services Credit Union will be joining Alliant Credit Union in its new branch at 1305 First Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, when construction is complete in late December. The branch will be a combined office.
