I was disappointed to read that the idea of a gambling casino in Cedar Rapids has risen again. It seemed like a bad idea years ago and it still does.
Where does the money come from to “generate $200 million in 10 years for the government and non-profits,” plus the money for the investors? It comes from the people who hope to strike it rich, but most of the money goes into other pockets and the people are poorer than they were before. How does this proposal benefit the quality of life? It’s all about money!
If they want to put their money into enhancing this city there are other, more positive ways to do it. Why not build a recreational center or an amusement park where families could have fun together? Why don’t the investors just give their money to non-profits? Please don’t encourage a casino in our wonderful city!
