One man was seriously injured after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a cable barrier on Interstate 380 near Coralville early Friday morning, officials said.

According to Iowa State Patrol, David P. Teno II, 34, of Iowa City, was traveling at a high rate of speed on the ramp from the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 to Interstate 380 northbound around 1:30 a.m. when he lost control and his car struck the cable barrier on the inside shoulder on I-380.

Authorities said Teno was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening. Officials said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, and no one else was injured. No information about his condition was available.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Bob Conrad said the cable barriers are helping prevent drivers from going across the median, potentially into other lanes of traffic.

“They are saving lives,” Conrad said. “No doubt about that.”

The accident remains under investigation.
