Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen, R-Hiawatha, has named Rep. Chuck Soderberg, R-Le Mars, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

Soderberg, who will be serving his fifth term, has been the chairman of the Commerce Committee. Paulsen has not named a new Commerce Committee chair.

Appropriations Committee Chairman Scot Raecker, R-Urbandale, did not seek re-election, and Vice Chairman Nick Wagner, R-Marion, was not re-elected.

Soderberg is a former city councilman and currently works as the vice president of planning for Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative in Le Mars.

The speaker also said Rep. Tom Sands, R-Wapello, will continue as chairman of the House Ways and Means.

Sands will be serving his sixth term in the Iowa House. A former city councilman, he is a banker, real estate appraiser and family farmer.

The remaining committee assignments will be announced at a later date.
