AMES – Matt Thomas is not only a consensus top-100 recruit who happened to be one of four players to sign National Letters of Intent Wedneday with Iowa State.

“What we’re getting in Matt is the best shooter in the class of 2013,” Cyclone coach Fred Hoiberg said Wednesday after practice. “He fits into our system perfectly.”

Thomas, a 6-4, 190-pound guard from Onalaska, Wis., joins another top-100 player in Flint, Michigan’s Monte Morris (6-1, 195) and a pair of JUCO recruits (Dustin Hogue, F, 6-6, 205; Richard Amardi, F, 6-9, 225) in Iowa State’s class of 2013.

Morris, his coach at Flint Beecher High School Mike Williams said, “makes everyone better.”

Williams added: “This kid, he can score in bunches but he can still distribute. He can do it all.”

Hoiberg said Morris could still be growing.

“Very long arms, big hands,” Hoiberg said. “A great passer. Really has good feel for the game. … He’s a winner.”

So is Hoiberg.

And Thomas — who was on hand for last season’s win over Kansas at Hilton Coliseum.

“I just can’t imagine what (Hoiberg’s) going to do in my four years,” Thomas told the Gazette when he committed. “I’m just really excited.”

Averaged 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds as a freshman last season at Indian Hills C.C., one of the top junior college programs in the nation…IHCC finished seventh at the NJCAA Division I national tournament in 2012…IHCC is predicted to contend for the NJCAA title in 2013…also considered Iowa, Texas Tech, Washington State and Detroit.
