Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery will talk about Jok later this morning.

From UI Sports Information:

University of Iowa Men’s Basketball Coach Fran McCaffery announced today that Peter Jok has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Iowa.

“We are thrilled that Peter Jok is going to become part of the Hawkeye family,” said McCaffery.  “He has a complete skill set that will be a great asset to our team.  He’s an excellent athlete who can play four different positions, and is a terrific 3-point shooter.  Peter is exactly what we are looking for in this class.”

Jok is a 6-foot-6, 200-pound guard born in Sudan, who played his first two years as a prep at Des Moines Roosevelt, and his last two at West Des Moines Valley.  Last season at Valley, Jok earned second team all-conference honors after averaging 10.2 points.  He hit 86 percent of his free throws, grabbed 4.3 rebounds and made 37 percent of his 3-point attempts.  Jok’s high school coach at Valley is Jeff Horner, Iowa’s all-time assist leader.

As a sophomore at Roosevelt, Jok averaged 18.5 points and seven rebounds and was a second team all-state and first team all-conference honoree. He was also one of 30 high school freshmen invited to the Nike Top 100 Camp in St. Louis in 2010, and participated in the 2012 NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp.

Jok played AAU basketball on the All-Iowa Attack.

Jok will join Jarrod Uthoff, who transferred to Iowa from the University of Wisconsin this year, on the 2012-13 active Iowa roster.

  1. If Jok can play decent defense, say goodbye to Oglesby’s minutes.

Scott, is Uthoff projected as a 3? I thought I recalled he also was a good shooter and little lighter in build.

    • Uthoff is a 3/4 guy. He’s a legit 6-8 who can run, shoot, defend, etc. He’ll play right away next year.

      • Ah, thank you. Who do you project, the key word is project, for the starting line up next year? I think Gessell, Marble, and Woodbury are probably locks. (Given that Dev’s jump to the NBA seems questionable at this point, IMO).

Who starts in that 3/4 area, a lot of congestion: White, Jok, Uthoff, McCabe, Basabe, etc. At the end of the day, love to see so much depth and flexibility regarding guys that can play multiple positions and line ups (small, big, defense oriented, etc.) And heck to boot, if Dev does leave, Clemmons could take the point and Gessell could slide to the 2, like he did when he ran with Marcus Paige in AAU. So much versatility!!!
