Paramount renovations are impressive

I am impressed by the renovations of the Paramount Theatre. I am wondering, though, are the toilets still in the basement? No big deal when going to the movies there as a child 60 years ago. But, now that I am almost, 72 it would be nice if the restrooms were on the main floor.

As an alternative to renovation at a cost of $35 million, what could have been built elsewhere out of harm’s way of another possible flood in the future? The Paramount underwent a costly renovation before the 2008 flood. Taking that money and the $35 million just spent, I would guess that Cedar Rapids could have had an impressive state-of-the-art entertainment venue rather than a refurbished anachronism. How many more dollars are going to be lost just to keep this dinosaur above water?

Please don’t tell me the toilets are still in the basement. (Editor’s note: restrooms are in the lower-level lounge, as well as the first and second floors.)
