An Illinois man was killed in an accident on Highway 52 on the north side of Garnavillo just after 3 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lyle Iverson, 88, of Rock Island, Ill. was southbound on Highway 52 near the Highway 128 intersection when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound car driven by Elizabeth Simon, 25, of Guttenberg, head-on.

The report said Iverson was pronounced dead at the scene. Simon, 25,  was taken to a hospital in Guttenberg before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Two other passengers in Simon’s vehicle, Tammy Allbee, 38, and Nathan Scherbring, 27, were also treated for injuries at Guttenberg Hospital. Iverson, Simon and Simon’s passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

Correction: A previous version of this report inaccurately stated Simon’s car struck Iverson.
