A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Highway 30 near Cedar Rapids, authorities said.

According to the Linn County sheriff’s office, a car and a pickup were involved in a crash around 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 30, just east of the Williams Boulevard overpass. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, and glass and other debris was scattered along the highway.

Lt. Greg McGivern said emergency responders pulled a woman out of the car. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The man who had been driving the pickup was out of his vehicle and able to walk, police said. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Neither driver had any passengers with them, authorities said. Names and ages of the people involved were not immediately released.

Investigators determined the pickup rear-ended the car near the on-ramp to eastbound Highway 30 from Williams Boulevard, sending both vehicles into the south ditch. McGivern said it appeared the pickup had rolled, before coming to rest on its wheels. At least one other motorist witnessed the crash, he said.

Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane around the accident scene while authorities worked. All lanes have since reopened.
