‘Creative Corridor Dream Big’ contest finalists named

Business pitches will be presented at Cedar Rapids event

Five finalists in the Creative Corridor Dream Big will pitch their business ideas Thursday evening in Cedar Rapids for a $5,000 prize.

Thirty-three contestants posted their ideas online where over 10,500 votes were cast to determine the finalists. Thursday’s event, The Live Pitch + Tech Brew, will begin at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Dublin City Pub. It will be free and open to the public.

Finalists are:

— clusterFlunk, a University of Iowa student-led startup building an online platform for students to collaborate on their studies.

Foliage Skateboards, an environmentally-friendly skateboard products and apparel company based in Iowa City.

Iron Leaf Press, a design, branding and letterpress printing studio in Mount Vernon.

— Portrait Community, an art-meets-advertising photography service by Cedar Rapids-based Concept Studios, LLC.

— Ready to Go in America! A student-led Iowa City based team developing a pocket guide and mobile app that helps international students adapt to the norms, systems and environment of the United States.

The winner will receive $5,000 and go on to compete at the statewide competition in March for $10,000 more.

Presenting sponsors are the Technology Association of Iowa, NextGen Marketing Center, Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, Iowa City Area Development Group, Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and the Entrepreneurial Development Center. The event is coordinated by Seed Here Studio.
