Regarding the Nov. 6 letter by Mary Susan Taylor “DMV worker should be glad to have job”:

In pursuit of a commercial driver’s license, I made several visits to the Cedar Rapids Department of Motor Vehicles site during October. I was amazed at the sheer volume of citizen customers being served each day. Yes, you must wait in line, and yes, you must take a number and sit waiting your turn. However, in interactions with many employees, I was treated in a respectful, professional manner.

I saw DMV employees step in to help reduce the long lines. I noted cross-training, so they could cover for one another, and they made appropriate accommodations for those with physical limitations. Regrettably, I also saw impatience and displeasure expressed by a few license seekers.

My take-away is that DMV workers do a very efficient job, given many challenges.
