The Republican Party says a special nominating convention has chosen Charles Schneider to run in a special election for Senate District 22 in suburban Des Moines.

The nominating convention chose Schneider in the second round of balloting Thursday night.

Schneider is a lawyer who serves on the West Des Moines City Council. He will run against Democrat Desmund Adams, a Clive resident who owns an executive recruiting and human resources firm.

A special election will be held Dec. 11 because incumbent Republican state Sen. Pat Ward died Oct. 15 of breast cancer.
