Iowa City police are looking for a man who they believe tried to stab a resident on Sandusky Drive who was about to smoke in his garage Friday morning.

Officers were called to 736 Sandusky Drive at 6:17 a.m. on a report of an armed man, according to an Iowa City news release. When officers arrived, they learned that an adult male who lives at the address was going out to his garage to smoke a cigarette when he heard someone banging on the front door, police reported.

The alleged victim told police that he walked out of his garage to see who was making the noise, and as he exited, a man tried to “slash and stab him with a knife,” according to police. The victim managed to dodge the knife and punch the suspect in the face, police reported.

The suspect, who the victim said he’d never seen before, fled the scene. The suspect didn’t say anything during the attack, according to police.

The victim suffered a scrape on his lower torso from the knife, police reported. Multiple officers responded to the call, but they weren’t able to find the suspect.

He’s described as a black male, about 30 years old. He’s bald with a medium build and had no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and possibly jeans.
