Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery will red-shirt 6-foot-10 post Kyle Meyer for the season.

McCaffery had told The Gazette multiple times this offseason he had planned to red-shirt one player, and Meyer was the likely candidate. McCaffery finalized his decision this week.

Iowa boasts five players in the rotation who will work in at power forward and center. Meyer is one of five freshmen this year and next year the Hawkeyes will add another sophomore in forward Jarrod Uthoff. Uthoff is ineligible this season after transferring from Wisconsin.

Meyer, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., was McCaffery’s first commit for this class.
