The Iowa football team's Pro Combat Uniform sits on display at Scheels All Sports Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 in Coralville. Iowa will wear the uniforms for their game against Purdue. (Brian Ray/The Gazette-KCRG)
From the Twitter account of Greg Morris, Iowa’s equipment manager and the man in charge of Iowa’s uniforms for the Veterans Day game:
“FYI-The military branches would not allow their names on the back of our jerseys so we decided on something else. Check it out Saturday.”
Center James Ferentz hinted at this yesterday, but this thing has been such a cloak-and-dagger affair that he was probably nervous about letting out any info.
Anyway, no military branches on the backs of Iowa’s jerseys Saturday against Purdue.
It might look like the above jersey.
You want to honor the Armed Services properly and in an approved manner.
Man, even something as simple as uniforms got bungled. Maybe do some research before committing to ‘flashy’ jersey. I will reserve my judgment until i see it on the field but early returns aren’t too promising
Why should this ludicrous concept be any different than the rest of the program. One giant fail.
If I were the Coast Guard, I wouldn’t want my organization’s name associated with Iowa football either, not to mention Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Marines. All are the opposite of Iowa football.
Maybe leave the honoring to pre-game and halftime folks, like the marching band and cheerleaders and such, and let the football players focus on getting a first down and then, maybe, a touchdown. Hey, even Iowa fans can dream, right?
Go Army!
