The Marion Chamber of Commerce invites the community to help welcome the Blue Zones Project site selection committee on Wednesday, November 14.
The visit will kickoff as the Blue Zones site selection committee from Des Moines travels through Marion going north on 10th Street onto Tower Terrace Road to The ESCO Group facility located at 3450 3rd Street. In order to show community excitement for the program, the Chamber is asking supporters to come to The ESCO Group at 7:30 a.m. on November 14.
During the actual site visit, Marion’s Blue Zone committee will learn more about what it means to be a Blue Zones community as well as demonstrate Marion’s readiness to become a Blue Zones demonstration site. Marion joins Altoona, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Davenport, Dubuque, Iowa City, Muscatine, Ottumwa, Oskaloosa and Sioux City in this process. Demonstration sites will be announced in January. If selected, Marion will receive assistance from experts to develop and implement a blueprint for making permanent environmental, social and policy changes that transition people into healthier behaviors that can lead to longer, happy lives.
Marion residents are being asked to take the Blue Zones pledge online at www.bluezonesproject.com. Once pledged, residents can begin to use the tools online and select actions that may interest them to begin their healthy transformation process.
