With all the talk about how we need to feel sorry for the poor convenience stores not making any money on the gas they sell, at last we can call bull! During two recent weeks, the gas stations in Marion (for the most part) have been 25 cents to 30 cents cheaper (per gallon) than those in Cedar Rapids. At the time of this letter, gas prices in Marion were $3.23 per gallon while in Cedar Rapids they were $3.52 per gallon. At Hy-Vee you get 3 to 10 cents off a gallon when shopping. Plus another 3 cents with a cash purchase! That’s $3.10 a gallon. Now while I realize that it must cost so much more to transport gas to Cedar Rapids than to Marion, I will take that into account.
It’s time to stop the fleecing of the American people! The media should have done some real investigative journalism to uncover the price fixing. You don’t think all these convenience stores are being built because they make millions on Big Gulps.
I, for one, will be filling up in Marion and I suggest the rest of Cedar Rapids do the same until the price gouging stops.
