Veterans Day is a topic so far. God bless our Vets! Thank you for your service one and all!
Purdue won the Little Pizza Bowl last year. I forgot about that. This season, the Boilermakers took Ohio State into OT and lost to Notre Dame by three. Those are two top 10-caliber teams in the country.
Lots of basketball talk seeping in tonight. I can grok that.
KF: Wonders about Vandenberg pressing. The whole offense hasn’t been consistent.
Tommy from Des Moines: He wonders about recruiting and guarantees victories in Iowa’s final three games.
KF: The QB drops haven’t changed from last year. Language changed. They’re through that. KF likes the 15 commits. This class isn’t finished, probably four or five more.
FERENTZ WITH COFFEE — Drink! (Coffee, of course.)
Two minutes ago, Dolph just said they have lines open. The number is 877-464-2957, in case you’re interested.
Caller: Has social media hurt your recruiting?
KF: “I have a real problem with Twitter.” On players, “They don’t seem to be walking around repressed.” KF said it’s way too easy to get in trouble. If it does hurt recruiting, they don’t want that player anyway.
Caller: Recruiting focus.
KF: Big Ten areas are the focus. NJ, NY, Maryland, work east coast. Florida and Texas, too. Something you continually monitor. KF believes fewer players leave Texas these days as opposed to the past (I imagine Hayden days would be the reference here). The Big 12 has grown. TV has sewed Texas together for the Texas schools. (Damon Bullock is from Texas and he has zero offers.) KF likes his 15 commits. Couple of months to the finish line, he says. He said, “I’m sure it’s a gentlemen’s agreement not to tamper. We just have to find a few gentlemen out there.”
You guys remember NIU QB Jordan Lynch? He’s a Heisman candidate. Here’s the link.
KF: Asked about true frosh. Nothing specific.
No JoCo I-Club breakfast for Nebraska. The senior breakfast is this Friday, just so you know.
Iowa’s smallest senior class under KF.
Concussion question. Diagnosis and protocol are key. They are definitely part of the game.
John Wienke talk. I think he’d be a terrific grad assistant or whatever the first step is for a coach right out of college. He will be a coach. His dad is a lifelong prep football coach. Wienke carries himself well, and you have to admire the way he’s stuck it out at Iowa. No, it didn’t work out, but, yes, he found a way to contribute, as pooch punter, his senior season.
Caller: Getting away from the TEs.
KF: We’d love to get the TEs more involved. It’s not by design, it just hasn’t gone their way lately. (CJF does have 27 grabs. He came in this year with 16 for his career.)
Caller: Indoor facility make recruiting easier?
KF: Great getting opened up. Very excited about the rest of the project, which should be open in two years here. Great visual example of where we’re heading facility-wise. More important than Twittering for the recruits.
And that is it this week. Two more left. This season has been a NHRA dragster.
