Twisters shine at recent meets

The Twisters Gymnastics club of Hiawatha has been on quite a run this fall, winnings titles at various events.

At their Twist-n to the Top meet last month, Elise Smith won five titles in Level 4, including the all-around; and Megan Hendrickson, Tatum Burnhardt and Bree Lewis won three Level 5 titles each.

Ferin Bergen won the bars in Level 4; Emily Richards won the bars, Gabriella Schroud the floor exercise and Lindsey Carhahan the bars and all-around in Level 5.

Other Level 4 place-winners were Lacy Neighbor, Paige Wilhem, Reese Miller, Amera Nakuritimana, Alexis Wheeler, Carlie Mather and Serena Rupert. Level 5 place-winners were Leah Hendrickson, Riley Kalouse, Taylor Peterson and Miriam Price. Sarah Nolting and Natalie Averkamp placed in Level 6.

At the Jump Jivin Invitational in Ankeny, Richards won four Level 5 titles, including all around. Chloe Carpenter and Nakuritimana won two events in Level 4. Other winners were Neighbor, Smith and Mather in Level 4, and Riley Kalouse and Peterson in Level 5.

Level 4 place-winners were Shawna Lindermann and Anna Nuemann. Burnhardt placed in Level 5, along with Lindsey Carnahan, Price and Schroud.

Utsinger places in world events

AUCKLAND, N.Z. — Don Utsinger of Cedar Rapids placed second in the 66-69 age group in last month’s International Triathlon Union Aquathlon World Championships.

He finished the 1,000-meter swim and 5K run in 46 minutes, 19 seconds.

Five days later at the World Sprint Triathlon — a 750-meter swim, 12.4-mile bike and 5K run — he placed eighth in his division in 1 hour, 29 minutes, 28 seconds.

Moser athletes win in Illinois

WOODHULL, Ill. — Fourteen members of the Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics won titles in the first USTA Power Tumbling Meet of the season last month.

Nicole Pettinger, Miranda Bell, Noa Marting, Emma Marting, Makayla Gasper, Annie Gulick, Kain Luensman, Tait Luensman, Cheyenne Varner, Reagan Brown, Hannabelle Erickson, Lucy Loecke, Katelin Ante and Emmy Troester won.

Jacob Gasper, Ella Marting, Hanna Marting, Claire Gaffney, Erin Gaffney and Kaya Knipper placed second, and Seirra Smith, Aly Sayre, Kayla Felton, Melanie Lutgen, Mikya Britton, Lelia Martin, Grace Funke and Lainey Knipper placed fourth.

CRAG athletes win Twistin’ titles

HIAWATHA — Grace Zaugg in Level 4 and Grace Hartzler in Level 6, both with the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics, won three titles each at the Twistin’ to the Top meet last month.

Kareena McSweeney and Connie Mendoza won two titles each, both in Level 6, and Hailey Hakes in Level 4 and Jessica Frasher in Level 5 were winners.

Lilly Winterowd in Level 5 and May Kate Patterson in Level 6 were place-winners.

Dillman wins table tennis title

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Mark Dillman of the Stonebridge Church table tennis team in Cedar Rapids won the Under 1300-rated title and made the semifinals of the Under 1600-rated division recently.

Local skaters shinein Gopher Open

PLYMOUTH, Minn. — Gracie and Eli Park of Palo and Noah Keller of Marion of the Iowa Speed Skating Association won titels at the Gopher Open last month.

Gracie raced to first place inthe girls’ Goblin division, Park won the Zombie division and Keller skimmed across the ice for first in the Phantom division.

Twisters gymnasts win at Hoedown

DES MOINES — Carlie Mather, Leah Hendrickson, Emily Richards, Lindsay Camahan and Natalie Averkamp all won titles for Twisters Gymnastics at the Sapphire’s Harvest Hoedown last weekend.

Maher won in Level 4, Hendrickson, Richards and Camahan in Level 5 and Averkamp in Level 6.

Other Twisters placewinners were Chloe Carpenter, Sophia Barbieri, Alexis Wheeler and Ferin Bergen in Level 4, and Megan Hendrickson, Riley Kalouse, Tatum Burnhardt, Anna Penning and Miriam Pricein Level 5.
