CEDAR RAPIDS – Cast the winning ballot for the environment by recycling campaign signs the proper way.

Signs can be dropped off in the container marked “campaign signs” at City Carton Recycling, 901 Ingleside Dr. SW.

Alan Schumacher, City Carton’s facility manager, said wire should be removed before recycling the signs. The wire can be recycled in the “tin” container.

Schumacher said the signs should not be placed in the blue residential recycling bins because wire can become tangled in machinery at the plant, resulting in a costly shut-down.

“It’s a big safety issue,” he said.

Signs are made of two different grades of plastic, Schumacher said, “and both of those grades of plastic are recyclable.”
