Gov. Terry Branstad has extended a moratorium on fines for trucks hauling overweight and oversize loads of soybeans, corn, hay, straw, silage and stover through Nov. 18.

Branstad’s proclamation applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa, excluding the interstate system, and which do not exceed a maximum of 90,000 pounds gross weight, do not exceed the maximum axle weight limit by more than 12.5 percent, do not exceed the legal maximum axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds, and comply with posted limits on roads and bridges.

Branstad’s original proclamation allowing oversize and overweight loans was due to expire Saturday, Nov. 3. The new proclamation extends the waiver for 15 additional days.

Iowa farmers have harvested 95 percent of the corn crop, a month ahead of normal, and 97 percent of the Iowa’s soybean crop, two weeks ahead of normal.

Grain movement was slowed last week due to rainfall, with 24 percent of the state seeing moderate to heavy grain movement from farm to elevator.
