Do any of you have to worry about the safety of your loved ones when they go to work every day? I do. And for the past 24 years of my life, I have heard of the overcrowded Johnson County Jail and the issues it causes on a daily basis and the amount of money that is spent housing inmates in other counties. The outdated jail design poses threats to the safety of those involved, including my father, Lt. Kevin Bell.

This should also matter to community members because these insecure conditions at the jail and the courthouse threaten visitors, family and friends who serve on jury duty or have other reasons to visit these facilities. Look at the safety, security, and space issues that exist and talk to those directly affected.

I will be voting yes to the new county Justice Center on Nov. 6 and hope you will join me.
