There's the playclock. That's about a mile from the scoreboard, by the way. (AP photo)

It’s Halloween. What else would I be doing? Watching “Friday the 13th” franchise on AMC? (That’s exactly what I’d be doing.)

Dolph says groin injury for RB Mark Weisman. I didn’t think it was a re-injury of the ankle. He’s out for this week.

Indiana is favored by 3, Dolph says. (I don’t even know what that means. What is this “favored”?) First time IU has been favored in a Big Ten game since Northwestern 2007.

On Iowa Live reference!!! From Oelwein! Mentioning Phil Haddy, who was fantastic on the show, BTW. If you have 9.2, it’s Monday nights at 6:30. Also, it streams on KCRG.com and might also be kept there for replay.

Thanks for watching, Tom from Oelwein.

Indiana’s OC Seth Littrell came to IU from Arizona. IU QBs are throwers, who can move a little but not in the realm of Kain Colter.

IU has eight jucos. (Off the top of my head, Iowa has QB Cody Sokol and a few other walk-ons.)

Clock management question (fair question): KF — Ultimately, it’s all on me. Three delay of games, what we categorize as unforced errors. Those are things you have to do better. Three correctable errors. It was processing in the huddle and one was lost at the line of scrimmage.

Punt block, OL: KF — All three guards showed inexperience, but hung in there. Continued process. Running low on OL. As far as specia teams go, been pleased last four weeks. What happened Saturday was unfortunate, makes it tough to win a game. This case, bad luck. Brad Rogers couldn’t go. James Morris to his position. New player to Morris’ position. They shifted a player in. Good player, conscientious player, won’t happen again. (It was sophomore safety John Lowdermilk.)

Venric Mark’s 72-yard run: KF — One player missed with helmet position by six to 10 inches. (I don’t know here, either Morris or DT Louis Trinca-Pasat. LTP as close to making the play. Either way, this play was muddled from the snap.)

KF: Going to rotate three (Nolan MacMillan, Austin Blythe and Jordan Walsh) at guard on Saturday.

KF sorry hearing about ISU LB Jake Knott, who was lost for the season with a torn labrum in a shoulder. He played vs. Baylor without painkillers because of upcoming surgery.

KF on Torrey Campbell and Nate Meier: Injury issues for both. May or may not get back out there this year. (Campbell is a redshirt freshman cornerback who colleague Scott Dochterman believes should switch to WR and Meier is a true freshman who played some kick coverage, but hasn’t for a while and could possibly angle for a medical hardship waiver.)

Dual threat QB? — KF: Not locked in on one type in recruiting. Will meld system around player. Likes the QBs they have on campus.

Ryan from CR: You are the definition of class, coach Ferentz.

And that is the show. Three more of these. Season is going fast.

What should I cover next? Nothing? C’mon, that’s not an answer!

Ferentz radio (It’s a wrap)
  1. Anyone ask why Iowa kicked a PAT at Northwestern to make the score a meaningless 28-17 when a successful 2-point conversion would have allowed Iowa to tie with only one TD and one FG? That was a HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS coaching error, again. Unforced error. Needs cleaned up. What possible excuse is there for such an egregious mistake by the coaches? Maybe the 2-pt. chart wasn’t easy to see at NW, along with those pesky play clocks. Is there an end to the poor coaching anywhere in sight? This is inexcusable, and it happens over and over and over again.

Sorry, but no, Hawkeye fans — who pay ALL the bills one way or the other — are NOT quite getting their $4 million worth.

    • Ummmmmmmmmm….no it wasn’t. XP was the smart play there. You’re still only two scores down (TD with 2PT + FG). 28-18 is every bit as meaningless as 28-17.

The real coaching blunder was not kicking the FG at the end instead of going for it on 4th down. That makes it 28-20 and then you are still alive in the game with an onside kick attempt upcoming, and the way things have gone for Iowa lately in that department, they’re about due for one to go their way.

  2. Both points are valid…Ferentz should have tried the FG AND he should have gone for two. And my point remains the same: the coaches are as bad at their job as the QB is at his. Maybe that’s why they won’t replace him. They understand.

  3. Sanji…since you seem to be so smart…why dont you send in your resume for the Iowa head coaching position. Every day you comment on here about how Ferentz didnt do this, didn’t do that. Apparently in your world, YOU are the only one who’s apparently smart enough to run the Iowa football program.

  4. I was about to say the same thing, Todd. To the people who are constantly complaining about the coach’s and player’s decisions: Did you ever make a mistake at work? Dial the wrong phone number? Misplace some paperwork? Lose a wrench or a hammer? Cut a board the wrong length? None of us are happy with the results, but it’s easy to criticize while watching TV. The coaches are looking at all 11 guys on the field as well as the other teams 11, figure out the next offensive, defensive, or special teams play, keep an eye on the clock, remind the officials that they missed a call, know who to send in as subs, keep track of who is injured and unavailable, and they’re doing all this in a matter of seconds. If you think you can do it better, then apply for the job.

  5. How many times has the coach said “that one in on me” when it comes to clock management? Let’s talk about recruiting. All that “not enough good high school players in Iowa” recruiting excuse and a low population state, was started by Jim Zabel on the call in shows that he has been associated over the years. Then Jon Miller climbed on board and it took off. I called him on it on one of his Jim & Jim shows but show hosts always have the upper hand. It is about the FANS and what they are willing to do to change things. College football should not be about drinking in the parking lot then calling the call in shows and making complete fools of themselves. It is about “Fan Participation”.
